Most visitors arrive on the Schoodic Peninsula by car, but you have options.

Biking the Byway

All of Route 1 and most of Route 186 in Gouldsboro and Winter Harbor have paved shoulders that make this a fun bike trip. Learn more at Explore Maine By Bike. Schoodic Peninsula is Tour 10

Highlights: islands, lighthouses, low traffic, ocean views, state/national park, wildlife

The 10-mile loop begins in Winter Harbor. Grindstone Neck has scenic views and a picnic spot. The 12- and 24-mile loops take cyclists through the easternmost reaches of Acadia National Park to beautiful Schoodic Point, as well as through picturesque fishing villages and along a dramatic stretch of Maine’s rocky coast. Schoodic Ferry

On Saturday, May 28, 2016, Frenchman Bay Research Boating will be launching a new non-profit Schoodic Ferry service connecting passengers, their bicycles and their leashed pets between Winter Harbor (via the Schoodic Marine Center) and Bar Harbor (via College of the Atlantic). Bar Harbor Ferry

The M/V St. Croix and the M/V Katherine provide seasonal service between Bar Harbor and Winter Harbor, Maine, with connections to the Acadia National Park Island Explorer Shuttle Bus. Downeast Transportation provides hourly service in Winter Harbor, Acadia National Park - Schoodic Section and Prospect Harbor during th summer season. You can arrive by ferry and visit some of the most scenic locations on the byway without a car. Learn more at Explore Acadia.
